New Middle/High School

Client: Everett Area School District, Bedford County, PA

The Everett Area School District chose Pathline for construction management services on its new $25 million middle school and high school complex. Pathline provided pre-design consultation for project scheduling, value engineering and constructibility reviews. In addition, on-site construction inspection, monitoring of construction schedules, quality assurance reviews, payment application/change order reviews and startup and commissioning services were provided. The project included the following:

  • Constructibility review identified 118 items for correction and clarification of the project architect's plans and specifications which reduced contractor change orders during construction
  • Value engineering identified 24 options with $960,000 of potential project savings; ultimately the District adopted $160,000 in project changes
  • New construction consisted of a 66,000 square foot, two-story building housing administrative offices, cafeteria and food preparation areas and classrooms (50, total)
  • Renovation work transformed existing classrooms into District administrative offices, computer labs, science classrooms and a library. Also, the cafeteria was modified for classrooms and a new faculty lounge.
  • New 1,200 seat gymnasium with lighting and sound systems
  • Site improvements improved bus access and circulation along with tiered retaining walls and grading for easier pedestrian access
  • New 3,000 square foot addition housing a band room and associated storage space
  • State of the art security system with access control, motion detectors and digital and video recording


Upgrades And Improvements To The K-12 Building

Client: Harmony Area School District
Year Completed: 2013
Project Cost: $7,000,000

The Harmony Area School District was faced with daunting renovations to its 50-year old building. School operations needed to be maintained during the project, which had the potential to disrupt classroom instruction and administrative functions. With a K-12 enrollment of 320, the District was operating under a strict capital budget. The Harmony school district turned to Pathline to provide construction surveillance, project coordination, change order and schedule reviews and to represent its interests during construction.

The renovation project included complete replacement of the electrical and mechanical systems, including a new boiler system, heat distribution system, new lavatories and plumbing fixtures and upgrades to the electrical distribution and lighting systems. In addition, the gymnasium floor and light system were replaced and upgrades made to the literacy room. New roofing systems, building masonry repointing and a new school entrance were completed. The project also included a new fire alarm and security system, renovations to the school water supply and wastewater treatment system.

Pathline actively monitored the CPM schedule, reviewed contractor change orders and value-added work proposals, coordinated work with administrators and teachers, reviewed payment applications and reported to the superintendent and school board throughout the project.

Alterations And Additions To Southern Columbia Middle And High School

Client: Southern Columbia School District

Pathline provided project management services for renovations to the Southern Columbia Middle and High Schools. This work included on-site construction inspection, monitoring of construction schedules, quality assurance reviews, payment application and change order reviews and project coordination. Major project elements included:

  • Middle and High School Additions - 8 new classrooms, science lab, art room, 4 special education class rooms, computer room, instructional planning center/faculty room, cafeteria expansion, 1,000 seat gymnasium, team rooms, music and auditorium storage, administration and guidance suites and extensive site improvements to improve bus loading/unloading, parking and traffic circulation
  • Middle and High School Renovations - secured vestibule to High School main entrance, secured lobby/administration area, 2 special education rooms, 2 science rooms, auditorium lobby
  • Elementary School Renovations - secured vestibule and improvements to administration and health suites

The project was completed within the contract time schedule. Final project costs were below the approved project budget as change orders were minimal.


Hickory Grove Elementary School Alterations and Additions

Client: Brookville Area School District
Year Completed: 2012
Project Cost: $14,000,000

Pathline provided project management services for renovations to the Hickory Grove Elementary School. This work included on-site construction inspection, monitoring of construction schedules, quality assurance reviews, payment application and change order reviews and project coordination.

The renovation included elimination of the open classrooms, popular when Hickory Grove was constructed in 1971. Color-coded walls and tiled floors will make it easier for students and visitors to find their way around the school. The relocation of the district's administrative offices was included along with the relocation of the school office from the center of the building to the main entrance of the school, thus providing additional security for staff and students. The parking area was expanded and a student drop-off point was added at the front of the school.

New science and computer labs were added and improvements were made in the library, gym and cafeterias, as well as the roof and heating system. New playground equipment was provided. A new multi-purpose room will also serve as a meeting room for the school board. New windows, an EFSS exterior finish system and landscaping was included with the project.

The project was completed within the contractual time schedule. Final project costs were 6% below the approved project budget as change orders were minimal.


Eisenhower Elementary School Campus (Grades 3-5) Grace Milliman Pollock Performing Arts Center

Client: Camp Hill School District

The Camp Hill School District retained Pathline for project management services for the new Grace Milliman-Pollock Performing Arts Center and Eisenhower Elementary School Campus. This unique $15 project is being privately funded through the philanthropic generosity of a local resident. The project combines a performing arts center and a new Grade 3-5 elementary school.

Pathline is providing constructability/completeness review, cost estimating and on-site project management services during construction. Major project features include:

  • Classrooms for Grades 3-5
  • Special services classrooms
  • Computer lab and library
  • Science Lab
  • 600-seat Gymnasium
  • Cafeteria
  • Outdoor playground, soccer field, outdoor stage
  • 500-seat performing arts theater

New Elementary School

Client: Shippensburg Area School District
Year Completed: 2007
Project Cost: $12,000,000

The Shippensburg Area School District constructed a new 70,000 square foot elementary school. The project was designed by EI Associates Architects to accommodate grades four and five and include classrooms, kitchen, cafeteria and gymnasium.

Pathline provided construction quality assurance and quality control monitoring, change order evaluation, schedule monitoring, start-up commissioning and related project management duties.

The project was completed on-time and under budget.


Valley Grove Elementary School Alterations and Additions Project

Client: Valley Grove School District
Year Completed: 2007
Project Cost: $15,000,000

The Valley Grove School District selected Pathline to provide project management services for renovations to the existing Sugargrove intermediate school. The project involved the consolidation of the district's K-6 students to the new Valley Grove elementary school. The project, located in Sugargrove Borough, Venango County, PA, was designed by HHSDR Architects.

Pathline's services included a constructability evaluation, construction document review, construction schedule monitoring and on-site project inspection. The project included the following features:

  • New classroom additions and renovations including new art, music and band rooms
  • New lockers
  • Administrative offices and public/lobby areas
  • New library incorporating 13,500 books with drop-down screen in reading area
  • Cafeteria renovations with sound panels
  • New 500 seat capacity gymnasium with six (6) motorized basketball backboards with security system
  • Front entrance improvements with security system
  • Site work, landscaping, playground and courtyard
  • Plumbing and electrical, power and lighting system
  • New kitchen, equipment and appliances

Additional Pathline work included quality assurance/quality control monitoring, change order evaluation, schedule monitoring and related project management duties. The project was completed 6 weeks ahead of schedule and $350,000 under budget.


Career and Technology Center Alterations and Additions

Client: Clearfield County Career and Technology Center
Year Completed: 2007

The Clearfield County Career and Technology Center selected Pathline to oversee construction of its first major renovation project in almost 40 years. The original school was constructed in 1968 as a vocation-technical school.

The $9 million project, designed by Crabtree-Rohrbaugh & Associates, Architects, involved reprogramming the building to meet today's technology needs for a thriving adult education program and space to accommodate the needs for college-accredited class work. Five Clearfield County school districts are members of the technology center governing board. The project included the following work elements:

  • Substantial demolition to over 60% of the existing 80,000 SF building with reconstruction to meet new program requirements.
  • 15,000 SF of addition to accommodate Masonry, Electrical Occupations, Electronics, Precision Machining, Welding and Auto Collision and new Diesel Technology Department.
  • Pathline provided construction quality assurance and quality control monitoring, change order evaluation, schedule monitoring, start-up and commissioning and related project management duties.

The project was completed on-time and under budget.


New K-8 School Penn-Kidder Campus

Client: Jim Thorpe Area School District
Year Completed: 2004
Project Cost: $17,000,000

Pathline provided project management services for the construction of the Jim Thorpe Area School District's new K-8 school. The new 97,400 square foot facility, located on a 50 acre site in Kidder Township, Carbon County, was designed by Hayes Large Architects.

Pathline's services included a constructability evaluation, construction document review, construction schedule monitoring and on-site project inspection.

The project included the following features:

  • Forty-six (46) classrooms including those for science, modular and manufacturing technologies, art, music and band, media center, and language arts, special education and computer rooms
  • Administrative offices and public/lobby areas
  • Gymnasium, locker rooms, cafeteria and full kitchen
  • Structural steel framing and roof with brick facade and aluminum-clad windows
  • Multi-zone HVAC systems with heat recovery and humidity control systems
  • Plumbing and electrical, power and lighting systems
  • Site improvements including earthwork, landscaping, grading, water distribution/sanitary system, sidewalks, roadways, parking lots, PennDOT driveway turning lanes and access roads on 50 acre site

Additional Pathline work included quality assurance/quality control monitoring, change order evaluation, schedule monitoring and related project management duties.


New Athletic Complex

Client: Jim Thorpe Area School District
Year Completed: 2002
Project Cost: $2,500,000

Pathline served as project manager for a new athletic field complex for the Jim Thorpe Area School District. The project, including a multi-purpose athletic field, grandstands, concessions, and all-weather track, involved considerable earthwork. Pathline successfully provided project monitoring and management throughout construction.

The project involved the following major components:

  • Earthwork, drainage, all-weather running track, football and soccer field sodding
  • Bleacher construction, field appurtenances including shot put and jumping pits
  • Concession stands and architectural work
  • Electrical work and field lighting standards

The project was completed within the budgetary and quality standards of the school district.


West Forest Elementary School - Secondary School

Client: West Forest Elementary School - Secondary School

Pathline provided project management services for the Forest Area School District on its West Forest school additions and alterations project. The project involved classroom additions, new gymnasium, mechanical systems and electrical work.
